Mary Biancalana, MA, CMTPT, LMT, Cert Per Trainer

Mary  is an award-winning educator and subject matter expert in the understanding of and treatment for myofascial pain and dysfunction caused by muscular trigger points. She has excelled in and been a leading figure in the fitness education field since 1983. A lifelong athlete and exerciser, teacher and advocate, she is passionate about muscle function and performance optimization. 

It Started Very Young

It became very clear to Mary early in her teens during studies and pursuits of fitness, that muscles which are not healthy cannot function at their full potential, preventing us from enjoying our activities.  After a minor car accident in 1998, she was introduced to trigger point therapy, and with much study, was soon fully immersed in this world of  Trigger Points, referred pain, chronic muscle dysfunction, Fibromyalgia, and the amazing benefits of treatment.

        Many thanks go to Dr Mike McNett, who was Mary's mentor in the understanding of Fibromyalgia and myofascial pain. Mary was honored to serve as the Director of Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy for the Fibromyalgia Treatment Centers of America in Chicago IL, under the direction and tutelage of Dr McNett and Dr Angelique Mizera.  It became obvious that without proper rehabilitation, muscles become bio-chemically and bio-mechanically inhibited by loss of circulation and development of Trigger Points (taut areas in muscle bundles that are maximally contracted and cannot add to the power of the rest of the contracting muscle group). 

 

Combined Skills Lead to an Amazing Practitioner

There are not many people in the world who have the unique combination of higher education, teaching certification, fitness certification, trigger point certification and massage licensure. Mary B is one of those people. Because of a keen ability to listen to the patient/client and assess bio-mechanical and musculoskeletal characteristics, she is able to have clinical outcomes that are changing lives, eliminating pain, and restoring full function every day!

  • B.S. from DePaul University in Teaching Physical Education

  •  Master’s Degree in Education, Sped, from Northeastern Illinois University

  • She holds four State of Illinois teaching licenses

  •  American Council on Exercise Certified Personal Trainer

  • Nationally Board-Certified Myofascial Trigger Point Therapist

  • Licensed Massage Therapist 

Mary is now teaching live, in-person, NCBTMB approved courses via her Advanced Trigger Point Seminars
